No journey of discovery into orange wine is complete unless you've checked out this bottle. La Stoppa is an ancient vineyeard that seeks to make modern wines which convey something of the history and essence of the territory. The Ageno is a blend of Malvasia Aromatico, Ortruga and Trebbiano. We used to joke that if Sun Ra would ever rise from the dead and stumble into BC, this is the wine we would serve him. There are so many beguiling and yet forthcoming flavours it almost feels as if the wine itself is from another planet. This bottle loudly demonstrates the impact of lengthy skin-maceration on aromatic varietals. It's a hoot. And a mouthful. And very Italian.
