Jimi Tenor - Quantum Connection / My Mind Will Travel (7”)

The Afro jazz funk cosmonaut from Finland has been constantly putting out fresh and constantly interesting music since he first burst into the collective consciousness with the timeless Intervision album. The terms Afro psychedelic and space jazz come instantly to mind when mentioning the saxophonist and keyboard wizard, who’s spent the last three decades exploring futuristic and interplanetary sounds. 

This double A single from 2018 (on the ever excellent Philophon label - see review elsewhere on this site) exemplifies the altogether organic and otherworldly qualities of Tenor’s music. Quantum Connection is an effortlessly groovy take on highlife and space funk, while My Mind Will Travel is one of Tenor’s finest effort so far, a cosmic jazz funk odyssey through time and space. A modern classic already.
